Family & Personal Life
Jack Furnish married Gladys Furnish. They have three sons together. David Furnish is their middle child who was born in the year of 1962 on the 25th of October. They have two more sons named John Furnish and Peter Furnish. John is their elder son who was born in 1961. Their younger son Peter was born in 1963 and he is 56 years old by now. They grew up with their sons in a middle-class family environment in. Their kids grew up in Toronto, Ontario. Their son David later married the famous pop star Elton John in 2006 when same-sex marriage became legal in Britain. Elton worked for his pocket money from an early age by doing various jobs like- delivering newspapers, babysitting, mowing lawns.
He also waited tables, booked hotels and worked in the factory and video store as he got older. Jack Furnish always encouraged David to save money which made David pay for his fees. But at the same time, Jack contributed funds for his fees. He went to the University of Western Ontario to study business. He shared that he studied a lot and partied less because he had to pay with his own hard-earned money. Jack and his wife Gladys were always tensed about David’s sexuality as he was not straight. David had a hard time with his sexuality since a young age.
He was initially teased & bullied in school as he was not interested in sports like most rather was interested in arts, theatre & music. He then had to struggle a lot to figure out his sexuality. No one was openly gay at that time and it felt the worst thing to him. After that, when he was in his second or third year of University, he started dating men. He tried to talk to his parents about him. But back at that time (In the late 70s & 80s), being gay was not as normal as it is now. So, it brought great grief to Jack and Gladys as it was considered to be an illness called “gay plague.” His parents were sad about the matter that David would never find someone and will never be happy. Also he will never be a father whereas he could a very good father to his children.
But then he met Elton John in 1993, and they fell in love and wanted to be partners for a lifetime. David then asked for Jack and Gladys approval. Although it was not a normal thing for Jack and his wife, they were happy that David finally found someone with whom he can be happy with. So, they happily agreed to their son’s happiness. Elton & David got married in 2006 and they have two kids now- Zachary & Elijah.
Career
Initially, Jack pursued his career as an accountant. Jack worked at Bristol-Myers pharmaceutical company. He worked as the director of this pharmaceutical company & later retired when aged. He also owned a homemaker company. He named the company’s name as his wife’s name- “Gladys”.
About Jack Furnish death
The Saturday when he died, his middle son David Furnish posted about his death on David’s Instagram the next day. He shared that an important person of his has passed away. Then he wrote a few words about his father, that includes – Jack Furnish was the type of ‘old fashioned conservative’ by which he meant Jack always lived his life according to the view he got from his own upbringing & that upbringing was disrupted according to David. Jack found comfort and support in David’s mother Gladys. Jack and Gladys built a family that had the stability to let their children flourish and shine. Jack’s wife died in 2019 which is just a year before his death. David shared photos of Jack with his wife Gladys.
David shared that Jack was always afraid of things that were known to him before. But he had the quality to keep learning things and grow with that learning which surprised David from time to time. His sons expanded his opportunities to learn more from life and to expand his views. Jack was present during the birth of David & Elton’s sons. David shared how Jack always taught him to live on his own, to be free and independent.
Jack taught him to be hardworking that led him to become a successful man today. And now David also passes the same lessons to his sons. Lastly, David said that Jack always wanted to be in the same place as his wife and now he is with her at the same place. David received a lot of condolences from his friends including his celebrity friends like – Liz Hurley, Bernie Taupin, Natasha Bedingfield, Jake Shears and Sharon Osbourne.
